Students and staff have been busy completing the reading and math benchmarks for students K-8. In an effort to assist all students in meeting grade level standards in the reading and math content areas, we utilize Renaissance STAR assessments which track individual student's level of performance and trends over time. This local assessment requires establishing a benchmark score. Student results are then used to create individualized plans for instruction when additional support is needed. Interventions for specific learning areas are applied when indicated, and progress is charted to validate appropriateness of the intervention.
The district has been fortunate to host Minnesota Reading Corps tutors as part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) in addition to a Title I teacher/interventionist. Students who are not working at grade level in reading may transition through the support layers of Title I tier III, then, when gains are made, they may transition to tier II and MN Reading Corps.
